Bhubaneswar, 09/12( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty ) : Samajwadi Party, Odisha on Tuesday staged demonstration at Master Canteen Square opposing the imposition of 5 percent VAT on wheat products and pulses in the State.
President of Samajwadi Party, Odisha Rabi Behera said “The imposition of 5 percent VAT, the traders across Odisha have stopped selling wheat products and pulses for which hoarders and black marketers are taking advantage of the situation. The market prices of these products have gone up substantially for which consumers are compelled to purchase it at higher prices. The lack of coordination among food and civil supplies department, finance department and trading community is responsible for the exploitation of consumers. Under these circumstances, we request Chief Minister’s intervention to end the prevalent anarchy in the market to give justice to the consumers”.
The party demands to punish the hoarders and black marketers, to confiscate the hoarded goods for rational distribution through Panchayats, convene an immediate meeting of finance department, food & civil supplies department and the striking trading community to end the impasse on the matter, said Behera, adding that we also demand punishment to the guilty government officials who by their inaction have thrown the consumers in the mercy of black marketers.
