Bhubaneswar , 28/7 ( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty) : In a move to give an exposure to the vibrant cultural heritage of Odisha, Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha organized a cultural show to welcome the student delegates from USA. In the auditorium of the Hotel Swosti Premium, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the department Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee greeted the delegates from California University, USA led by Prof Annapurna Pandey and Prof Trailokya Pandey.
Addressing the congregation, Minister said “The trip of the American students delegate will make them imbibe the essence of Odishan culture and having been apprised of the cultural heritage of Odisha, the American delegate will help in promotion of Odisha tourism. Through cultural exchange, Odisha’s art, articulture, sculpture, painting, music and dance can receive wider appreciation”.
Prof. Annapurna Pandey expressed her overwhelming response in appreciation of Odishan culture. Each of the delegates was felicitated by the guests.
The meeting witnessed cultural programmes which marked the spirit of Odishan art. The students of ‘Odisha Dance Academy’ presented ‘Gotipua’ and the swift, scintillating performance of the artists stole the show. The student delegates offered standing ovation having been mesmerized by the presentation of ‘Bandha’ item of the dance tradition. This was followed by typical Sambalpuri folk dance that included Chutki chuta, Pangabati, Rasarkeli, Mailajuda. The students of Dayal Sangeet Academy with their vibrating dance recitals enthralled the audience, Department of tourism plans to organise such cultural exchange programmes to give a new dimension to the promotion of tourism. The Department hosted a dinner party to the delegates wherein MP, Bhubaneswar Dr. Prasanna Patsani, Industry, School & Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Higher Education Minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Tourism Director Manoranjan Pattanaik, Additional Secretary Tourism Maguni Patra, Director Culture Sushil Kumar Das, OTDC chairman Narendra Kumar Swain, Vice-Chancellor Utkal Sanskrit University Prof. D. P Jena, Station Director Doordarshan Kendra Jayanti Rath, Information Officer, Barada Prasanna Das were present. The eleven students’ delegation of USA are Justine Dougherty, Sofia Pasarow, Jordan Mulvihili, Olivia Arstein-Kerslake, Navreet Kaur, Emma Lee, Rosemary Apple, Joel Paola, Yvette Cabrera, Claudia Morales,Vanessa Rocha.
