Bhubaneswar, 05/12/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty )- : Based on their outstanding performances in the national circuit and the selection camp held recently in Mumbai, Mohd. Jafar Iqbal and Pankaj Bhue have made it to the India Cricket Team for the Blind that will participate in the 5th ODI World Cup for the Blind 2018 to be held in Dubai and Pakistan from January 7 to 21, 2018. The Team was announced yesterday by G.K. Mahantesh, President of the Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI). While Jafar plays for Khordha district Pankaj plays for Bargarh district. Both had contributed as all-rounder in the recently held East Zone Cricket Tournament for the Blind in Kolkata.
Both Jafar and Pankaj were felicitated by Cricket Association for the Visually Impaired (CAVI). The felicitation ceremony was graced by Panchanan Kanungo, former Finance Minister. Other dignitaries on the stage were Priya, CSR Head, TCS, Dr. Sanjay Sathpathy, Lecturer in History, Ravenshaw University, Ashok Nayak, Channel Head of Naxatra TV, Aprita Mohapatra, Adventure Sports Specialist, Prashant Pradhan, President Elect, Rotary Club of Cuttack Barabati and Prakash K Rath, Area Director of Special Olympics Bharat-Odisha. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sannyas Kumar Behera, Secretary, CAVI.
All the guests applauded the efforts and achievements of the selected players and encouraged them to aim still higher. Others who could not make it to the team were encouraged to keep trying without getting disheartened.
