Infrastructure Development Plan of VSSUT gets government nod

English Logo Col ChangeBhubaneswar , 28/6 ( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty) : The Infrastructure Development Plan of Veer Surendra Sai University ( VSSUT), Burla has received government nod in a high level meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra in Secretariat conference hall today afternoon wherein Secretary Employment, Training & Technical Education Dr. Chandra Sekhar Kumar outlined the need for development of infrastructure in the University. The proposals like construction of additional hostels, lecturer complex , faculty housing units, road and drain development and campus lightening  involving the investment of around Rs 100 crore have  received in principle approval of the meeting.

Discussions in the meeting reveal that VSSUT was formed in the year 2009 by converting University College of Engineering, Burla to a non-affiliating University. Since then there has been constant grants from government for development of the infrastructure in this technical university. Over last three year around Rs18 cr has been provided to the University for Infrastructural Development. During last two years the intake capacity of the course in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Information Technology has been enhanced and new programmes like Metallurgy, M. Tech in Information & Communication Technology, 5- year integrated course in Chemistry have been approved for the university. It has been decided in the meeting to open the course in Chemical Engineering, Microwave Engineering and 5-year Integrated Course in Physics from the current year. At present, the campus strength of the university is around 2800. Hostel facility is available for around 1700 students. Considering the necessity for additional hostel accommodation it has been decided in the meeting to construct a new boy’s hostel for 750 students and one additional girl hostel for around 500 students. Similarly, the proposals for construction of 42 units of faculty housing, renovation of existing hostels, development of road and drains, landscaping and site development, street light, transformers, lightening arrestor etc have also been approved in the meeting.

Chief Secretary has directed the University authorities to prepare detail work plan and revised estimate of the proposals.

The Development Commissioner Aditya Padhi, Additional Chief Secretary Finance U.N. Behera, Industry Secretary Vishal Dev, Secretary Works N.K. Pradhan along with University authorities and higher officials from concerned departments participated in deliberations. : Developping Odia News websites
