Green card holders to boycott Assembly elections

ELogo BlueBhubaneswar , 11/3 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty ) : The green card holders have decided to boycott the coming Assembly election and mobilize the women green card holders to boycott the elected representative in their meeting and constituency visits if government fails to consider their demands.

Addressing a press conference here, Founder of Odisha Sabuja Patrika Bikash Parishad Rajeev Ray said “There are nearly 16 lakh women green card holders in the state, most of who stay in rural, remote and tribal areas. We have adopted peaceful method of organizing rally to draw attention of the government, political parties, media or the society in general. But no heed has been paid to fulfill our genuine and longstanding demands of providing a fixed allowance of Rs.1000 to unemployed green card holders; as such increments are given to the government employed green card holders”.

Other demands include providing soft loan to those green card holders for housing construction and enrollment in Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojna, at least 40 percent discount facility in train and bus fares, Ray said, adding  that Health Department should also come up with a printed/published data of house wise green card holders.
