Bhubaneswar, 22/05/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty )- : More than 6,000 hostels have been established in the State to provide quality education to nearly 5.5 lakh SC & ST students. To provide livelihood support to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), a scheme called “Odisha PVTG Empowerment and Livelihood Improvement Programme (OPELIP), over with an outlay of Rs 795 crore has already been launched. Under the new scheme, over 32, 000 PVTG families will be benefited”, SC & ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi said in a press conference here on Monday.
Highlighting the achievements of the SC & ST development department in three years of the BJD government’s fourth term in power, the Minister said the State Government has introduced Anwesa scheme in December 2015 to provide education to SC and ST children free of cost. Special attention has been paid to the welfare of SC and ST students in
Odisha. Target has been set to open 303 new hostels for them in the State.
