Bhubaneswar, 28/6 ( Odsisha Samachar Bureau ) – Former Minister and senior Congress leader Shri Niranjan Patnaik on Friday asked Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik to send an all party delegation to Uttarakhand and draw out a plan for contributing to the reconstruction effort. Shri Patnaik advised that the delegation can meet the Chief Minister to express solidarity and assess the state’s need.
In a letter to CM, Shri Patnaik urged the CM to contribute and share the anguish of the people of this beleaguered state. In his letter, Shri Patnaik requested Chief Minister to stand by the people and the government of Uttrakhand, which has gone through the major loss of life and states’ heritage. “In the past when Odisha needed help many states were generous in extending their services and gratitude. Now, when it is our time to come forward and extend our help, we should not be found wanting in doing our bit at this hour of grave crisis,” said Shri Patnaik.
“During this natural calamity and national crisis, we all should be united and be the support system of the people, who are suffering every second of their lives and the state that has gone back by at least three years due to this damage, destruction. I request you to send an all party delegation to the affected state and draw out a plan for contributing to the reconstruction effort,” he said.
Uttarakhand has special needs because of its hilly terrain. The people of the state are also quite poor though very strong and honest. “The state should adopt a few villages; maybe we can help in repair of a stretch of road or a few bridges and consider sending some heavy machines. The team can meet the Chief Minister to express solidarity and to assess the state’s need,” Shri Patnaik stated in his letter.
In the letter, Shri Patnaik also said that the temptation to be contended by sending some blankets or used clothes should be avoided. Besides, the apprehension is that that the blankets would be like the low quality stuff being distributed by the state government, which will not be useful in the cold conditions of Uttarakhand.
“As you may realize this is not the time to take a partisan or political view of death and destruction of such magnitude. But, I felt that the response of our state has been inadequate and therefore, I am writing this letter to express my concern. I request you to extend greater support to relief and reconstruction to Uttarakhand at this hour of need,” Shri Patnaik averred.
