Bhubaneswar,16/03 ( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty) : “Every effort must be made to raise awareness among consumers about their rights”, said Tourism & Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda while inaugurating the state level function organised by Food Supplies & Consumers Welfare Department at Jayadev Bhawan here today on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Food Supplies & Consumers Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma said “Odisha Government is committed to protecting the interest of consumers. The consumers should also be aware about the laws amended for safeguarding their interest”. Efforts must also be made to raise awareness among students and youths, he added.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary Food Supplies & Consumers Welfare Madhusudan Padhi highlighted the different programmes taken up by the Government for redressal of consumers’ grievances. He said that due to unfair trade practices the consumers are deprived of their rights to choose a product. The consumers also get easily influenced by misleading advertisements due to lack of awareness.
Among others, Additional Secretary of the Department Raghunath Mohanty, Director Consumer Affair Ratnakar Rout and State Supply Corporation Managing Director Niranjan Nayak also spoke on the occasion.
School and college students from eight districts were awarded by the guests during the function for their best performance in essay competition on the topic consumer awareness.
