ECO SAVER’S YOUTH NETWORK- Observation of World Water Day

English AnimatedBhubaneswar ,22/3 ( Odisha Samachar/Dipti Ranjan Kanungo – World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources & to increase the awareness among the people about the importance, need and conservation of water. The theme for World Water Day celebration of the year 2014 is “Water and Energy”. World Water Day is about what you will do in 2014 and beyond to promote  sustainable practices in the realm of water and energy. In our world we have 97.5% Saline Ocean Water,2.5%   Fresh water , 20% Ground Water, –  1% Surface Water, 79% Ice caps & glaciers.

Eco saver’s Youth network ,Bhubaneswar  in collaboration with People’s cultural centre [PECUC],Rotary Club of Heritage ,Bhubaneswr and Institute of Media studies observed world water day at IMS. More than 100 youths participated in the programme .world water day2014-1

Sushree Shailani Suman ,Eco saver’s youth Network Leader presented paper and said  768 billion have no access to safe & clean water. Worldwide, every year, there is a depletion rate marked in ground water level of about 2 ft.By 2025 more than half the nations is the world will face fresh water stress or shortages.  By 2050 as much as 75 percent of the world’s population could face freshwater scarcity. The global demand for fresh water is expected to rise to 55% by 2050. Each person needs 20-50 liters of safe freshwater a day for drinking, cooking and cleaning. Access to drinking water means that the source is less than 1 kilometer away from its place of use. Lack of fresh water in 3rd world countries contributes to food insecurity and malnutrition. This can result in poor or failed harvests which in turn result in food scarcity and high prices of the available food. Drought is now the most common cause of food shortages in the world. At the start of the 21st century un-clean water is the world’s second biggest killer of children. Also she said  more 1000 young volunteers in  Eco Savers youth Network in keonjar ,Balasore and Khordha started working on for plantation , save water campaign ,ban polythene, use of vermin compost etc.

Students of IMS on the Dias Itishree , Dushmanta, Niharika participated in the discussion and said Let’s think about how water refreshes us, how water keeps us healthy, and how water truly is a foundation for life on this earth and they along with other participants take oath to stop misuse of water in their own level, own houses and community. They also said Check plumbing for leaks, especially leaking toilets , Use waste water or gray water from the bath, washing machines or dish washing on the garden, Catch the rain. Use it for watering your plants, lawn or garden, Plant small trees under big trees etc .In last ECO Savers Network Member Srujan Bharadwaj Pati gave vote of thanks. : Developping Odia News websites
