Following an emergency meeting at the special relief commissioner’s office, the Chief Minister said, “The district collector is in charge of the situation. Instructions have been issued to the officials to make all efforts to rescue people affected by flash floods in Nagabali and Kalyani rivers of the district. The Centre has also been requested to provide four helicopters to intensify the rescue and relief operations.”
Due to flash floods triggered by excessive rains, many villages have been inundated and road communication between Rayagada and Bhawanipatna has been disrupted. Several trains have also been cancelled as the railway bridge between Titlagarh and Rayagada washed away due to heavy rainfall.
