Koraput/Bhubaneswar, 04/09/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty )- : Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the long-awaited Saheed Laxman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital in Koraput on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “It is indeed a historical occasion for all of us. With this medical college and hospital, a long-cherished dream has become a reality. Now, the number of MBBS seats in the state has gone up to 850. We expect to have 200 more seats by the next year”, Naveen said.
A total of 100 seats have been admitted to the first year MBBS course, classes for which will commence from today.
The new SLN medical college and hospital, built at a cost of Rs 192 crore, is the fourth government medical college to be set up in the state after a gap of nearly 55 years. It would cater to the healthcare requirements of the people in Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts.
