Bhubaneswar, 10/11/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Swarna Prava Nayak )- : During a two-month campaign conducted by Humara Bachpan, 25 child leaders took the lead for auditing 16 neighbourhoods in Bhubaneswar and came up with some recommendations.
The child leaders had conducted door-to-door survey of 3, 104 households in 16 slums and recommended that toilet infrastructure construction should equally put emphasis on building child friendly features in both individual and community toilets, BMC should be responsible for cleaning regular community toilets.
Arpita Malli, a 15-year-old child leader from Goutam Nagar slum, said, “Swachha audit has helped us understand the situation of sanitation in our slums. any slums do not have proper toilet facilities which leads to open defecation resulting in unhealthy and unhygienic living conditions. Knowing about these issues will help us more in advocating for clean environment.”
Humara Bachpan, a national campaign on safe and healthy environment for young children living in urban poverty, aims at inclusion of child friendly components in urban renewal policies of Government of India such as Prime Minister Awas Yojna-Housing for All, Atal Mission for
