Bhubaneswar, 15/10/2017 ( Odisha Samachar / Abhisek Mohanty ) : The government will install auditory traffic signals at busy intersections of the city to make the roads visually impaired friendly, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department Minister Prafulla Samal.
Gracing a observance of International White Cane Day on Sunday, the Minister assured to bring amendment in the executive order issued by the SSEPD Department on September 5, which is going against the decision of Odisha Legislative Assembly regarding the cumulative reservation for persons with disabilities, implementation of universal scribe policy notified by the state government.
Speaking on the occasion, ISWAR general secretary Sannyas Kumar Behera highlighted that white cane is not just a tool that can be used to achieve independence; it is also a symbol of the blind citizens in the society.
Among others National Career Service Centre assistant director RK Sharma and football coach Shradhanjali Samantaray also spoke.
On the occasion, white canes were distributed among 300 visually challenged participants. A white cane march was led by visually impaired cricketer Md. Jafar Iqbal and first visually impaired OES of the state Bijayalaxmi Pal.
The event was organized by Institute of Social Work and Research (ISWAR), Bichhanda Trust of Welfare, SSEPD Department, Ananda Charitable Trust and Sight Savers.
