A symposium at CUO on ‘Diversified Agricultural Development in Odisha with Special Reference to Koraput Region ’

Koraput , 13/03/2017 ( Odisha Samachar ) – A Symposium OS-Logo-Pink-English-300x179on ‘Diversified Agricultural Development in Odisha with Special Reference to Koraput Region’ was organized by the Department of Economics of the Central University of Orissa  at its Sunabeda Campus. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, inaugurates the programme and delivered the inaugural address. Prof. (Retd.) Sudhakar Panda, Former professor, Department of A & A Economics, Utkal University and former chairman of Odisha Finance Commission, Bhubaneswar was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Dr. Jagabandhu Samal, Professor of Tribal Studies, COATS, Koraput and Dr. P.C Mohapatra, Director COATS, Koraput was present on this occasion. Prof. Mohanty on this occasion cited the importance of agricultural development of the region for economic upliftment of the people.

Prof. Mohanty in his inaugural address talked about the importance of the agricultural development of the region as well as for the country. He cited that our tribal society is based on agriculture and most of the people dependent on agriculture, therefore it’s development must be the prime agenda for economical development of the region. He emphasized on the agricultural livelihood and its importance in tribal and backward regions of Koraput. He advised the students to do extensive and in-depth research in the field of tribal and agricultural development issues. He urged the students to work on community development research programmes.

Prof. Panda discussed about the price, credit and marketing policy issues of Agricultural Development in tribal areas of Odisha, Prof. Samal highlighted about the ecological setting and its impact on productivity of agriculture in backward areas of Koraput region, and Prof. Mohapatra elucidated the practice of shifting cultivation and its role in ensuring diversified farming in hilly areas of Koraput district. Students from various disciplines of the university actively participated in the programme. After the deliberations, there was a brain storming discussion session among the students and faculties with the distinguished speakers.

Dr. Prashant Behera, HoD, (I/c) of Dept. Economics delivered the welcome address and co-ordinates the programme. Students and faculty members of the University were present at a large on this occasion.
