44 PWDs appointed as degree college lectures in various colleges

os-logo-pink-english-300x179Bhubaneswar, 21/10/2016 ( Odisha Samachar ) – In a major achievement,  As many as 44 persons with disabilities have been selected to the post of degree college lecturers and joined in different colleges to prove their talents.

In 2015, the state selection board advertised 1625 numbers of vacancies for the post of degree college lectures in different disciplines, where they have ignored the reservation for persons with disabilities. Challenging such advertisement, General Secretary of Institute of Social Work and Research (ISWAR) Sannyas Kumar Behera had filed a complainant case before the state commissioner for persons with disabilities. He had also submitted representation before various competent authorities of the state government including director for welfare of persons with disabilities and Governor of Odisha.

After a strong advocacy and a consistent battle of law, the secretary of state selection board had admitted the ignorance of the board and rectified their advertisement by  ensuring due reservation to persons with disabilities.  Finally, after the completion of the recruitment process, a total of 44 persons with disabilities have been selected as the degree college lectures in different disciplines under the direct recruitment after the long gap of 27 years.

Some people who have lost their hope could be able to restore their career in  academic profession as they have enjoyed 10 years age relaxation as per the spirit of the law. The General  Secretary of ISWAR, in a media statement expressed his thanks to the principal secretary of Higher education G V V Sharma, the then secretary of SSEPD dept Saswat Mishra, the then director for welfare of PWDs Bibhuti Bhusan Pattnaik, deputy director Ashok Kumar Behera and secretary of state selection board Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Mohapatra for their positive outlook and rectification of government policy according to the law.

Behera also placed a special thanks to Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik who rightly guided the higher education department to create a new history of appointing the disabled persons as degree college lectures with his commitment which is beginning of a new dimension in the field of employment for PWDs.
