Bhubaneswar, 27/8 ( Odisha Samachar/Abhisek Mohanty ) : Odisha Geological Service Association (the Association of officers belonging to the Exploration Wing of the Directorate of Geology under the Steel and Mines Department) held its 24th Annual General Body Meeting on Wednesday at Hotel Panthanivas here.
Addressing the meeting, association’s General Secretary Dr. Prabal Kumar Chand expressed concern over several problems faced by the members of the association. He said “The service cadre has not been restructured during the past 37 years, as a result of which, the officers of the Directorate of Geology are getting their first promotion after more than 25 years of joining service. While entry level posts of many services of Odisha Government have already been upgraded to Class I, the Geologists, Petrologists and Geophysicists of the Directorate with a qualifying degree of post graduation have been deprived of this. As a result of which, many officers of have resigned and joined other services. Recently four officers of the Directorate left job and joined Odisha Mining Corporation under the same Department due to much higher entry level scale of pay”. He apprised the Minister of the significant achievements of the officers of the Directorate and requested him to look into the long standing demands of the association.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of Geology Artatrana Dash said “This is one association which is always proadministration and acts in a democratic manner. He highlighted the hardships faced by the officers in the field, where they live in difficult situations facing extreme climatic conditions, diseases and wild animals. Dash also requested the Minister to consider the demands of the association in a sympathetic manner.
In his address, Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick praised the officers for their notable contribution in the field of mineral development. He assured the association members to look into their issues and support their cause. The Minister also advised the officers to maintain a sincere attitude in their day to day work and strive to adopt new technology in the field of mineral exploration.
Association President Mihir Kumar Senapati also spoke on this occasion. Association members from all over the State attended the meeting.
